This is your opportunity to share with me your favorite marine species and to
demonstrate what you have learned this semester. To do this, please describe the
life-history of the species (e.g., how large does it get, how long does it live, how does
it reproduce, what does it eat, etc.), it’s distribution (where it’s found) and
environment (what type of ecosystem/s it lives in), challenges of its environment
and adaptations that the species has that allow it to survive within that environment,
any interesting factoids (unique and cool aspects of the species. If there aren’t any,
that s ok (but I bet there is something that made it cool for you!)), and any
anthropogenic threats that the species is currently facing and ifany conservation
measures are in place. Please use and cite appropriately within the text (a literature
cited section at the end of your paper is required) any source material that provides
information on your species. I will require at least 10 sources with five of them
being credible, scientific sources (e.g., peer-reviewed literature (scientific journals),
books by scientists or from authors with expertise on your group of organisms (e.g.,
Sharks of the World by David Ebert), websites from natural history
museums/research organization, etc). Ultimately, enjoy learning about a marine
species that you find interesting and apply what you have learned in class to help
you better understand that species.

To receive credit you will need to follow the guidelines provided below for
your report:

1. An electronic copy of your report with a minimum of 5 pages not
including photos and literature cited section (if you choose to add
photos this is fine, just cite where you obtained them)

2. Format is to be 12pt Arial Font, 1 inch margins, and double spaced

3. A report that summarizes the key features of your organism that I have
listed above (feel free to talk to me about this if you d like)

4. A minimum of 10 citations in m format (at least 5 being scientifically
credible) provided within the text of the report and a complete
literature cited section at the end of your report

5. Email the report to me
